He laid siege to Jericho and destroyed the monastery of Qumran. Before the destruction, the Essenes hid the Dead Sea Scrolls in caves nearby. There they remained until they were found by the Bedouin shepherd Muhammed edh-Dhib, his cousin Jum'a Muhammed, and Khalil Musa, between November 1946 and February 1947.
