The Khazar Khaganate extended from the Dnieper to the Caspian Sea, and northward to the headwaters of the Volga. Itil on the shore of the Caspian Sea was its capital city.

Bronze half follis, Anastasi 118, DOC II-2 183, Wroth BMC 371, Morrisson BnF 13/Sy/AE/24, Hahn MIB 212, SBCV 1113, VF, well centered on a ragged flan, nice green patina, scratches, Syracuse mint, weight 4.620g, maximum diameter 23.7mm, die axis 180o, c. 650 - 651 A.D.; obverse facing bust with long beard, wearing chlamys, globus cruciger in right hand, cross surmounted by palm on right; reverse large mark of value (K = 20 nummi) made into a Kwnstans monogram (), A/N - I (year 10) across fields; very scarce; SOLD
