Jupiter or Jove, Zeus to the Greeks, is the god of the sky and thunder and king of the gods. The father of Mars, he is, therefore, the grandfather of Romulus and Remus, the legendary founders of Rome. In myth, he negotiated with Numa Pompilius, the second king of Rome, to establish principles of Roman religion including sacrifices. As the patron deity of Rome, he was remained the most important Roman god until Christianity became the dominant religion of the Empire.RB72831.
