The towns of Aquis, Scupi and Zaldapa in Dobruja were destroyed. In 595, a Byzantine force under Priscus marched up the northern bank of the Danube to Novae (modern Bulgaria). The Avars plundered and abandoned Singidunum (Belgrade) on the Byzantines' approach. The Avars retreated and raided Dalmatia.
