England, Henry III, 1216 - 1272
Henry III became king as a boy of nine years and reigned fifty-six years, during which England prospered. He made Westminster the seat of government and expanded the abbey as a shrine to Edward the Confessor. He spent much of his reign fighting the barons over the Magna Carta and the royal rights, and was eventually forced to call the first "parliament" in 1264.
