Gaius Octavian styled himself "Imperator Caesar" and took control of the Western provinces. Mark Antony was given the Eastern provinces. Marcus Aemilius Lepidus controlled Hispania and Africa. The treaty was cemented by the marriage of Antony and Octavia, sister of Octavian.
