Flavius Victor campgate, but which mint?
« on: January 18, 2015, 03:40:13 pm »
Hi all,

I recently received this campgate of Flavius Victor. The only issue is that I cannot seem to match it to a mint. I seem to see ?C?N, which along with the style, indicates Arles. But none of the Arles mint marks fit it.

Flavius Victor
Pearl, diademed, cuirassed bust right, DN FL VIC-TOR PF AVG
Campgate, 5 layers, 2 turrets, star above, no door, SPES RO-MA-NORVM
1.0g and 13mm.

I've looked at all the Flavius Victor campgates on acsearch, tantalus and coinproject but could not find any mintmark matches. Does anyone perhaps have an idea?

Thanks!
Tjaart

Perhaps Aquilea with SMAQS, a final S for the mint mark  ;)

Have you considered Lyons as a possibility. Mint mark LVGS

Hi all,

Thanks BiancasDad, you and some other help eventually pointed me in the right way. When looking at the photo again. I can clearly see the last letter to be an S. That matches this coin:

http://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=406227 as well as the one by elagabale2000

Thanks again for your help. I am really excited about this rare coin!
