Valerian coin front text?
« on: January 16, 2015, 03:02:17 pm »
Hi. I have this coin that I think is a Valerianus Viminacium .
The reverse tells me that it is a Valerianus Viminacium coin, but as I read the front the letters are:IMPCHA?MILAE????? or IMPGRA?MILAE?????.
Can anyone help me with the text on the front?

Johnny

Not Valerianus but Aemilianus.
Obv. IMP C M AEMIL AEMILIANVS AVG
Rev. PMS - COL VIM / AN XIV
Ref. Jekov/Hristova No.96

Best regards

Thank you for your help; it suddenly is an Aemilianus coin.
But it gives me another question.

All the coins that I can find of Aemilianus the reverse is: P M S C - OL VIM
On my coin the reverse is P M S - COL?
When I measure out the Space for COL VIM 12 mm, and COL is taking 7 mm. so for VIM there is only 5 mm. and with a Little Space between the letters only 4 mm..
Is it possible that the text is: COL V (without IM)?

The end of the obvers legend is A only insted of AVG. The revers legend is not clear to me, either P M S - COL V or P M S - COL VI.
If the later on is correct your is Martin 6.01.38. If the end of the legend is V only, it is a unlisted variant with this obvers.
