2014 Member of the Year Nominations
« on: December 21, 2014, 09:14:17 pm »
Please nominate your selection for our 2014 Member of the Year, who will be awarded the title Tribunus Plebis (male) or Tribuna Plebis (female). Nominations will close on 31 December.

To be eligible, the member must:
- Have been a member the entire year (membership does not end with consecration).
- Be one of the top 50 posters (currently that means more than 1300 posts).
- Either serve as a moderator or hold one or more of our honorary titles.
- Sign posts with their real name.

One Tribunus or Tribuna Plebis will be elected each year. Polling will begin after the nominations are complete. A member elected for a second time will be designated Tribunus Plebis Perpetuus (male) or Tribuna Plebis Perpetua (female). When a Tribunus Plebis Perpetuus (male) or Tribuna Plebis Perpetua (female) is selected, the member with the second highest number of votes will be honored as member of the year and awarded the title Tribunus Plebis (male) or Tribuna Plebis (female).

Pekka Kemppinen (Pekka K) - Tribunus Plebis 2013
Nikos Karniaoutakis (rover1.3) - Tribunus Plebis 2012
Andrew McCabe - Tribunus Plebis Perpetuus (2011 & 2012)*
Dane Kurth (helvetica) - Tribuna Plebis Perpetua (2003 & 2011)*
Eric Brock (commodus) - Tribunus Plebis Perpetuus (2011)*
Andreas Reich (areich) - Tribunus Plebis Perpetuus (2010 & 2013)*
Lars Rutten (Pscipio) - Tribunus Plebis 2009
Martin Griffiths (maridvnvm) - Tribunus Plebis 2008
Steve Minnoch - Tribunus Plebis 2007
Hans-Joachim Hoeft (Jochen) - Tribunus Plebis Perpetuus (2006 & 2009)*
Patricia Lawrence (slokind) - Tribuna Plebis Perpetua (2006 & 2005)*
Curtis Clay - Tribunus Plebis Perpetuus (2005 & 2004)*

*Tribunus Perpetuus and Tribuna Perpetua are no longer eligible for nomination since they are already Tribunes of the People for Life!

Please NOMINATE OR SECOND ONLY THE ONE PERSON for whom you actually intend to vote. Post your nomination or second below.  Please include the member's REAL NAME and username in your nomination.  Anonymous members are not eligible.  If you don't know the member's real name, you cannot nominate them.

There is someone on these boards who, despite his vast and valuable contributions, appears to have never received a nomination - a situation I would like to rectify.

His website - hosted here on FORVM - is a wonderful source of information for beginning collectors (and more experienced ones as well!).  But he doesn't merely explain terminology (although he does that beautifully) - he frequently poses questions to which there are no "right" or "wrong" answers but which force his readers to consider what collecting criteria are most important to them personally - questions which are instrumental in developing their own collecting philosophies.  And he makes people with an appreciation of history and beauty feel like they too can participate in the "hobby of kings" - regardless of their budget levels.  Plus, he's a really good writer (I needed a box of tissues when I read his entry "The Coin Show - Ten Years Later").

His many contributions to this board are always incredibly knowledgeable and helpful.  And although I have never sent him a PM, his kindness always makes me feel like I COULD.  (I know that sounds stupid, but I am very shy, and in awe of so many of you here, so it is meaningful to me...)

Add to all this the fact that he is personally responsible for the fact that many of our coin photos look like ...ACTUAL COINS!   :)

I therefore nominate Doug Smith for Member of the Year.

Nominate: David Atherton for the help and valuable information he provides to the Flavian era of Roman Coinage. His impressive collection is also used by any as a source of identification of Flavian coins.

You beat me to the nomination but I'll be very happy to second David Atherton. I've almost been converted to collecting Domitian by his enthusiastic and always interesting posts
