Unknown little bronze 10-13mm
« on: November 26, 2014, 02:15:45 am »
Hi all,
This is the first I've ran across one of these coins so I have no idea here. It looks like many of the little Judean (widow's mite) coins so I thought I'd post this one here. Anyone have an idea on a reference or that can give a novice a lesson on how to identify these? Thanks so much!

This is a prutah of Alexander Jannaeus. The reverse is upside down, but you can see the NT of YHWNTN.

Thanks Aarmale! Is there any dating to this coin more narrowed down than his tenure? Thanks much for your assistance!

Certainly there is no concrete dating for this coin type. Meshorer speculates that the type was struck 100–90 CE (AJC 1:79).
