Heraclius, Thessalonica follis Sear 823a
« on: October 23, 2014, 04:14:00 pm »
Hi. My new purchase is this follis of Heraclius, Thessalonica mint, Sear 823a.
Sear estimates this follis 250 pounds in VF, so I assume it is a rare issue.
I would to know how much is really rare this issue, since I can not found on web any specimen.

Thanks in advance

Of course you cant find any specimen on the web.
I collect and study idensively Byzantine coins for many years and I have never seen another specimen of this coin offered anywhere.
According to my sources approx 1-2 specimens of this have been recorded.

Value?
Depends on the desire of a collector to add it in his collection.

Thank you very much, joma-tk. I bought this follis as "Nicomedia follis", but I immediately recognized the thessalonican style of the follis, in particular of the M.

Great eye! Yes the M is typical Thessalonican.

If you bought it on e-bay or from the most known auction houses, I was obviously   8)
