Follis or token ?
« on: October 17, 2014, 09:10:49 pm »
Does anybody know what is this . New type cast follis or token ?  Coins 1 ( my coin ) and 2 was listed as token of Michael IV (1034-1041) and plus description that was taken from the CNG 168 ( 2007)  , coin 4  - " Circa 11th century. Æ Tessera . The type is copied from the reverse of the Anonymous Class C follis, and thus the tessera probably dates from the middle of the 11th century. The tesserae, or tokens of this period have been little studied, but it has been suggested they were part of a donative system for the poor of Constantinople "
Coin 3 - unknown .
Coin 5 listed as possible crusader issue , that was  found together with crusader folles of  Tancred of Antioch , 1104-1112 , CCS 4 .
1 - 4.37 g, 18-22 mm
2 and 3  - unknown
4 - 3.17 g , 21mm
5 - 4.29g, 22mm

Regards ,
Vlad .

Interesting - do we know where any of these things were found?
Since they seem to feature on zeno.ru perhaps they are coming from Ukraine/Crimea, suggesting maybe a mint in Trebizond is the source.
