Early Greek coin - Can anyone help with identification, please?
« on: September 25, 2014, 06:55:50 am »
I have had this coin for some time and I have been unable to identify it.
I am thinking 4th or 3rd century BC but more than that I cannot add. The coin is silver and is 8 mm in diameter, and weighs .9 gm.
Can anyone give me some input as to what they think this coin might be, please?

Can anyone recognise the bust on the obverse?

Here are two new photos that might help.

Your coin is a BI-Diobol from Methymna on the island of Lesbos: http://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=266410

Pscipio - You are a genius. A pure genius.

My hat is off to you. I don't know how you did it. Thank-you.

And so ends a long search (and another begins).

It just takes experience. It's a pretty distinctive coin type. If you don't know the type, it's not easy to search for it, so it's no wonder you couldn't find it.
