Pendant?

51mm in length could this be a pendant? I was even thinking fibula for a while but I do not see how the pin was attached.

I have never seen an item quite like this one so this is all speculation.

I see why you said fibula.  It does look a bit like the tied-foot type of fibula.  But you are right that it is not a fibula part but must be some sort of pendant.

The loop looks quite thin so I think it is some sort of jewelry.  Maybe for a necklace.  I don't think it is a harness or belt pendant.

Not even sure of the culture.  Not a typical Roman item but could be provincial I guess.  Post-Roman??

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Hmmm.  Might be.  But if so then the front part has either been cut off and the remains filed into a point or it has broken off in a very strange way.

If it is it would be the back part of a La Tene II fibula.

Yes, I think you are right.  But what I find odd is that the end is not just broken but seems to be filed down.

The reason why I thought fibulae was the foot part which looked like it would have had the pin resting there like other fibulae. That spot is broken. But as Shawn had observed the end does not appear to be broken. It is smooth and not ragged.
