Sestertius Antoninus Pius
« on: August 22, 2014, 03:01:09 pm »
Hello,

I've searched for this metal detecting find to get a reference but it's harder than i tought. The obvious seems to be clear enough to determinate but i only found a reference without laureate head. So if someone can help me out with this one, i would be very happy.
Regards,

Joost

Try with Marcus Aurelius.

I'm pretty sure the obverse will clean up to reveal more detail and make identification much easier..
Break out the distilled water and cut down toothbrush!!

  Best wishes,

Lee.

Thanks for the information. Maybe i'll clean it a little more but because it's a find i would like to let it like the condition now. Mostly i get some matches while searching but neither Marcus Aurelius gave me hits. The obv. seems to be clear enough, the revers maybe shows a statue of the Emperor (?)

Vale.
The obverse portrait and most of the legend is perfectly clear.
On the reverse the structure of the  brige and the wáter in the river are also evident.
Not the soldiers.
