« on: July 24, 2014, 06:36:07 pm »
Does anyone have this book?  I have a coin that is not listed anywhere I can find, SG is my last hope.

Thanks,
Tom

I have a copy. What are the details?

The book was published in 1965, before her marriage, when her name was only Edith Schönert!

Of course Isegrim and Varbanov should have taken over every coin she describes!

Thank you Curtis.

I don't have a photo at the moment, but will tomorrow.

The coin in question is Faustina II, the reverse is Isis Faria right, holding billowing sail.

Varbanov only lists two reverse types for Faustina II, but not this one.

Thanks,
Tom

Schönert pp. 166-7 has only the Concordia standing type, Varb. 140, who repeats two of her pictures.

She doesn't have the Hera standing type reported by Varb. 139 from Mouchmov.

Dear Curtis, Tom, and Board,

There is an Isegrim database for Thracian coins?!  That would be wonderful.  As is, I am only familiar with the one for Asia Minor.

As for the Isis Pharia coin of Faustina II, such a piece is recorded on RPC IV Online:

http://rpc.ashmus.ox.ac.uk/coins/10709/

A very interesting type.  Hope this helps.

After a careful search, I don't find Perinthus or Byzantium there. I was hoping they were close enough to Asia Minor to be included! ::)

Thanks Mark, I totally forgot to check RPC online!

Now, to find a photo of that coin.  I am guessing that the coin I have in hand is that same coin.  I am working on a collection that has quite a few Ex-Antioch Associates, from that same time period.

Dear Curtis,

I know what you mean!  To take one of the cities as an example, Isegrim includes the Homonoia between Nicaea and Byzantium coin types, but nothing directly for the latter.  This is understandable, but as Constantinople, one tends to associate Byzantium with Asia Minor more than Thrace.  In fact, in casually browsing the Roman provincial coinage of this city, one is struck by how "Bithynian" it looks!

Dear Tom,

Glad to help!  Please consider posting a picture of your coin, when one is available.  And if finding a copy of the Antioch Associates auction catalog proves difficult, I may be able to help.

As promised, here's the coin photo.  I can confirm that this is the Antioch Associates coin listed at RPC IV online and will email Volker with the new info.
