possible unpublished Domitian denarius
« on: July 22, 2014, 03:23:23 pm »
I recently purchased this denarius of Domitian. I am 95% convinced that it is authentic, but because I have never purchased a coin from this particular ebay seller, I still have a seed of doubt. I'm interested in any opinions on authenticity because I have never seen a left-facing bust on this issue. Thoughts?

Looks authentic to me.

I have written in to my RIC that a similar coin (or the same coin?) was offered by lucernae, eBay, 25 Nov. 2013, 2.46g.

My printout of the Lucernae specimen shows that the two are different, being from the same obv. die but two different rev. dies.

I agree with Curtis. The coin looks genuine style wise and fabric wise.

Appears to be a die match with the lucernae coin too, which was purchased by Alberto.

That's right, not the same coin but at least the obverse is a die match with mine, for sure.

I've sent pictures and technical data to Ian Carradice.

Kind regards

Alberto
