Geta Help Please
« on: July 18, 2014, 01:03:45 am »
Hi,

AE 16,

Geta. Serpent Entwined Staff.  Can't seem to find a reference for this.

Thank for the help!

It's similar to this: Nicaea
RecGen 506 var   Geta, AE16 of Nicaea, Bithynia. 3.41 gr. L CEPTI GETAC K, bare head left / NIKAIEWN, serpent-entwined torch. RecGen 506 var (bust type).

Your coin is exactly RG 506, no variation.  Your description of RG 506 isn't quite right, it should actually be L CEPT GETAC KAI; bare-headed bust right.  (RG often does not differentiate between draped or draped and cuirassed.  Note the word bust is different from head. The obverse of this coin is not in the plates.)

I have an example of the same type, but with a left facing head.
