Greek or Provincial Ae 21 for identification.
« on: July 13, 2014, 06:31:55 am »
Hi all

I've had this lying around for some time and despite several efforts I haven't been able to identify it.

Obv. Female bust (or may be Apollo/Dionysus I suppose), traces of legend round
Rev. Horseman standing left beside horse, legend appears to be ANT(?) - NAPONOC***. I am unsure of the last three(?) letters.
Bronze, 'desert patina', 21 mm, 5.42 gm, die axis 180 degrees.

I have looked in the usual places (Hist. Num., Lindgren II&III, Wildwinds etc) but haven't found it, and I'd be most grateful for any pointers. I expect it will be blindingly obvious to someone out there :-[

Thank you

Alan

Whatever it is - i like it.   +++  +++  +++

So far no result but i will continue searching.

Maybe what we can see is part of a name and a magistrate´s title archiereus: ... ANΔPΩNOC APX ?

Isegrim shows several matches for ANDRWNOC, most of them Alabanda.

That was very well and quickly done Arminius: I am most grateful.

I can now get it into its right place in my collection, which makes one less 'piece of junk' on my desk for my wife to complain about!

Best wishes

Alan
