I also like the early Arpadian coins, Joe, but don't have a lot of them. The DVX MVONAS is particularly interesting. Here is a link to mine: http://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-39742. This is my understanding of the strange legend:

The obverse legend is deciphered either as + DVX MVONAS (per Huszár, Frynas, Kovács and Gyöngyössy) or + DVX MAGNVS (per Réthy). The former interpretation deciphers all A/V letters consistently as inscribed (so that the fifth letter is a V and the eighth is an A) and assumes that the sixth letter is an O. The latter interpretation inverts the second and third A/V letters (so that the fifth letter is an A and the eighth is a V), and assumes that the sixth letter is a G. Tóth-Kiss and Kovács explain that Magnus was the Christian given name of Géza. According to Adamovszky, the standard legend reads MVONAS but there is a variety in which it reads MAGNVS.

Dear Steve,

First, thank you Smiley,
and

In our opinion,
If you look DVX the V only two bar-like form in "V" shape, but the "A" in the MVONAS 5th letter has a small so-called "hat" on it as you see in my examples, that was the reason why we used this kind of interpretation the legends: DVX MVONAS, because the "V" never has the "small sole" like the "A" has the small "hat"... Wink

Very nice obverse strike, Joe. Mine is weakly struck so that I cannot determine the sigla. Stkp

Yes, I saw your example, it would be hard to determine the sigla, but somewhere between the A and V ... not visible...Sad
