Your 012 Istvan II., (Stephen-II.) King of Hungary,  is a amazing coin, great condition, not familiar with the coinage nice to review. I also applaud the quality of your photos. How much time do you estimate it to take with photographing each coin and working with the images?

Hi quadrans,

I like the coins from Hungary. Other than the polish coins which were more or less copies of the coins of Germany and Austria, the appearence of the small denars is very distinct. This is true for the 13th and 14th century and all the more for the two centuries before.

Come to know that AvP (Albert von Pietegau / Albert I. (1246-1259) was an opponent of Bela IV, as he was an ally of the mighty King of Bohemia Ottokar II Premysl, to whom he fled, after his attempt to murder King Konrad IV had faild. Later on (in 1278) Ottokar II succumbed to Rudolf von Habsburg in the famous batte on the Marchfeld in Austria.

So this series of Bela IV (1235-1270) is especially for you:

First line:

1.
Tower above crescent, between two fleurs-de-lis

The Hebrew letter chet

0.51g [Unger II.228]

2.
King sitting with scepter. Rim: BELA REX

Circle cross, a star in each quadrant. Rim: MONETA REGIS P HVNGARIA

0.53g [Unger II.218]

3.
King's head with cross. Rim: +VNGARIE

Falcon hunting on hare

0.39g [Unger II.241]

Second line:

1.
King's head and double cross between two towers

Crowned sphinx with wings

0.59g [Unger II. 246]

2.
Two crowned heads. In the middle a cross standing at crescent

Panther

0.47g [Unger II.230]

3.
St. Michael fighting the dragon (devil)

BELAE REX In the middle the hebrew letter te(i)t

0.58g [Unger II.233]

If there is anything to correct please make me aware!

Hi quadrans & Stkp,

Many thanks!
Sorry, I must dissapoint you, I've shot almost all the powder. :-[ Istvan II, Geza II, Bela II + III are remaining in the powder tower - nothing special, not worth mentioning.

Since I like islamic coins I am an admirer of the pseudo kufic "fals" of Bela III., all the more this type is not expensive.

Best regards
AvP

 Hi AvP,

 Thank you your comments..:)

If you are interested the "semi cufic" coins you can find this from the other thread:

"This is the nice article for this kind of coin "sigla " system ,but unfortunately it is Hungarian language..
