Small Bronze Roman - Partial Legend
« on: April 19, 2014, 12:09:18 pm »
Hello,
This little coin turned up recently and it has a legend or partial legend that I have not seen before.
There is only a partial legend and I'm thinking what is there might be a Greek legend.
I have done some searching and it kind of looks to be possibly an Antonius Pius or a Carus.
It is bronze, weighs about 2 grams and has about an 18.2mm diameter.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

Would that be a genuine contemporary counterfeit?

Coins of this time period are typically very crude.  The legends seem to be correct.  I believe this is an authentic, official issue.  Do a search of the various online databases for Claudius II and Aequitas, I think you'll see many similar types which are official issues.
