Michel Prieur passed away on 21 March 2014
« on: March 23, 2014, 08:27:31 am »
I must announce some sad news.  Michel Prieur passed away on 18 March 2014. Although he never made a post here, he was one of our Procurator Monetae, with the pseudonym username Laurent COMPAROT. Michel Prieur was superb numismatist with exceptional expertise and his work always met the highest standards. I frequently refer to his book The Syro-Phoenician Tetradrachms and their fractions from 57 BC to AD 258 and to his CGB catalog listings. We communicated occasionally through email and he was always pleasant and he helped me with a few attributions.  He will be missed.

The following is from French Wikipedia:

Il est l'auteur du corpus A type corpus of the syro-phoenician tetradrachms and their fractions from 57 BC to AD 253. publié en 2000

Dear Joe and Board,

More information here:

http://blog.cgb.fr/faire-part-de-deces-de-michel-prieur,6162.html

Wikipedia has revised their page on M. Prieur accordingly.

Also, I wrote a little tribute to M. Prieur which was kindly included in this week's issue of E-Sylum:

http://www.coinbooks.org/club_nbs_esylum_v17n12.html

But this will not be all.  I also plan to write a proper obituary on him for World Coin News.  If anyone here would like to contribute photos, anecdotes, or any other information, the time to do so is now as I would like to complete this project soon.

Sincerely,

Mark Fox
