Rev. should be COS III: there was probably originally an extra stroke between your widely spaced COS I - I.

With COS III, your coin becomes:

Cohen 1061 (Paris, 10 francs).

BMC 1273, pl. 80.9

Strack 430a, pl. VII, listing the Paris and BM specimens, also Naples, Vatican, Trau; illustrating the Paris specimen.

Thank you.  I have not seen a coin like this before and the references given were alien to me.
would there be a reason that a coin like this is unlisted on wildwinds?  usually I find it easy to ID a coin and rarely have to ask for help.
Regards
Pete

10 francs in Cohen, and only 5 specimens listed by Strack, indicate a rare coin.

I've indicated two illustrations, but unfortunately can't scan them for you myself. Thanks to Jochen for doing so!

Apparently not in Wildwinds or CoinArchives Pro. That simply means that no specimens were illustrated in the sources those two databases have relied on.

Incidentally you could submit your specimen to Wildwinds for inclusion in their RIC database. Dane Kurth (Helvetica), the overseer of Wildwinds and a Forvm member, would probably be glad to have it!

Click on Member List, just below Recent Posts, click on letter H, find Helvetica, click on that name to see her profile, click there to send her a Private Message.
