Hi Guys,

After my success in the last round, and as I am currently unemployed so have plenty of time on my hands I thought I would have another go...  ;D

1 -  25mm . This is gonna be a real bugger with hard green encrustations, and some shiny metal showing through... I hope I can keep it green!!

2 - 19 mm . Soft dirt... I hope!!

3 - 18 mm . Slightly harder dirt, but with nice detail underneath.

4 - 15-17mm . not sure about this one...

5 - 15mm . Not much to do in the Obv. not sure about the Rev!

6 - 14 mm , No detail showing at all, and pretty hard dirt.

A nice mix of easy and challenging coins... thanks Joe!!

 +++ ;D +++

Coin 6 looks interesting, look forward to seeing what's underneath the grime.  ;)

Well, here is my completed selection....

As you will see I had a bit of a nightmare with one and 6.....

1 - No idea!!  Total catastrophic fail!! Tried my gentlest, it did not help, in desperation I stripped it with a sbbb, Some sort of Roman male emperor, and I think in hand I see a seated figure on the rev....

2 - Constantius II 348-350 AD.
Ob: Laureate, draped and curaissed bust right; D N CONSTAN TIVS P F AVG
Rev. FELTEMPREPARATIO. Phoenix, radiate, standing rt. on pyre/cairn.
ASIS (Symbol) in ex. Siscia mint.
This coin I am well chuffed about, as I have been hoping to uncover a nice version for a long time... It makes up for coins 1 and 6!!

3.  Claudius II Gothicus.  268-270 AD.
Obv. IMP CLAVDIVS P F AVG, radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right.
Rev. PA-X A-VG, Pax advancing left, holding transverse scepter in left hand and olive branch in right hand;
T in ex. Mediolanum (Milan) mint. Ref. RIC 157
This did not photograph too well, it is more attractive and shows more detail in hand. Another keeper.

4. Constantius II.
Obv. DN CONSTAN-TIVS PF AVG, pearl diademed, draped, cuirassed bust right.
Rev. FEL TEMP-REPARATIO, soldier spearing fallen horseman.
Mintmark off flan.

5. Constantius II. ( Again!!) 324-351 AD.
Obv.  CONSTANTIVS P F AVG   Rosette-Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right.
Rev . VICTORIAE DD AVGG Q NN     2 Victories facing each other holding wreaths.
:Greek_epsilon:SIS in Ex. Siscia mint. Ref. RIC VIII Siscia 182

Lovely little coin with the most charming green patina... yet another keeper!!!

  And Finally!!

6. My new(ish)  kitten "Blom" , who as far as I know, was the last one to see coin 6 as she decided to "help" with my cleaning on the kitchen table  :-\ , its a good job she is cute otherwise she may have had a near death experience!!!!

I realise that I have disqualified myself by not cleaning all the coins I received,  but it was good fun, and I am more than happy with the results, 3 definite keepers from 6 is not a bad average... And a testament to Joes uncleaned coins. Its just a shame we wont know what hid under the dirt on that little coin 6!!

I also urge everyone who has yet to submit "after" photos to get their fingers and toothbrushes out so we can save the Never-Ending Cleaning Competition !!
( And a double check on my attributions would be appreciated!!  +++ ;D +++ )

  Best wishes,

Lee.

This is the most amusing post that i've read yet!  So many posts all over the messageboard go into extreme details, which is fine for some, but I appreciate nice light posts like this one the most!
