How do I deal with this?
« on: April 29, 2013, 12:44:02 pm »
After a recent posting of this coin of Geta Benito suggested that this green spot needed attention.

Has anyone any ideas of how I clean or make this spot safe, or even if i should attempt it?

I wouldn't worry about it. Green spots like that one are often seen on ancient silver - they are nothing more than harmless deposits.

To my eyes, the coin doesn't appear to be a fourree.

Lemon juice would remove it. Did a few of mine that had it.

Thank you everyone.

Since I don't know much about cleaning I think I will take the advice and leave it alone.

You can't do much harm if you find a way to apply the lemon juice just to the spot. But it certainly isn't necessary to remove it, it doesn't detract from the very nice coin.

well said Areich,

The coin is not perfect anyway.. ( Even though it is Awesome!! ) A bit of grey here, a bit of unused flan squeezed out there... ( sorry, I dont know the technical term..) ,, but a little spot of green adds to the drama of the coin... Id leave it also!!!
