Gratian AE2. Do I have this right?
« on: January 11, 2013, 05:33:51 pm »
Hi Guys,

Romans are not my cup of tea usually, however I received this coin in a mixed collection I bought some time ago, and I kinda like it,  ( a little over-cleaned, but pretty and in nice condition IMHO ) ....

Can anyone please confirm I have the right attribution please...

Gratian AE2.

Obv: DN GRATIA-NVS PF AVG, helmeted, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust
 right holding spear and shield
Rev: GLORIA RO-MANORVM, emperor standing left on prow of galley, holding
labarum, Victory seated at the helm.

Mintmark ANT(officina letter), wreath in left field.

RIC IX Antioch 40a.

 Thanks in advance!!

  Lee.

ANTB o ANT :Greek_Gamma:

I cant see if it is  :Greek_Beta: or  :Greek_Gamma: on the wildwinds one due to the quality of the coin .It looks more  :Greek_Gamma: same as his .Regards .Britanikus

The letter is B (ANTB), how do you know you might ask yourselfs..... Lee in his generosity has most kindly donated the coin to my Prow of galley collection.
