There are some fabulous coins at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan. 
Regardless of whether or not you think it's a crime to make jewelry out of ancient coins, I suspect you'll agree---HOLY Cow!

I think they must have been worn, since the bracelets were set in the 19th century.  But can you imagine being wealthy enough to own--much less donate--things like this?

How rich? Donor was a major stockbroker and diplomat, whose wife was a Guggenheim and daughter of another stockbroker. They collected early US furniture, a huge Napoleonics collecton, and quite a bit else, gifting much of their collections.
