Here is a coin that I thought I would never own. In fact, I had blacked out the line in my Excel file!

D N IOVIN – VS P F AVG, pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust right  
VICTOR – IA AVGG, Roma seated left on throne, holding Victory on globe and reversed spear.
SMLDV in exergue = Lyons

Rated 'Rare' but I could not find any other examples on WW or acsearch.

Wow, that is neat.  Congrats on getting one of the super rare shadow emperors!  I don't really collect the late stuff, but that's one I sure would.

How is that only rated rare?

Gosh what a great acquisition!

The world of late antiquity is such a fascinating time, the west began a long cultural slide, got a lot poorer, lost technology and sadly became a much more dangerous place to live. Perhaps due to the stress, both East and West turned to Christian mysticism, and the visual arts lost their classical naturalism.

I can see all that in this little piece of ancient silver.

rick and Gav, for some reason the condition escaped me until I photo'ed it. Prior to that, I think it was just that I had it in hand and that was good enough for me at the time. It was quite a revelation when I got the photos all spliced together.

Steve, that's a great observation. Thanks for providing that insight.

cliff, I always have my radar up for guys like Priscus but I might have to part with a major organ for that one
