My latest acquisition, something of a consolation prize as I was outbid on a much nicer example. Sellers photo.

AR Grosso. Rome mint.
St. Paul holding sword and gospels, St. Peter holding keys and hospels S PAVLVS S PETRVS ROMA
Papal arms ALEXANDER VI PONT MAX
Berman 532, Muntoni 15-17.

If anyone happens to have a reference for it, please let me know and I'll include it.

I've had an interest in the Borgias since reading about Cesare Borgia in The Prince and undertaking further research to understand why he had such an impact on Machiavelli. A fascinating family that seem to be receiving a lot of attention lately. There have been two recent television drama series about them (I recommend Showtimes The Borgias with Jeremy Irons as Alexander VI) and they also feature in the extremely popular video game series Assassins Creed. The Borgias, and Lucrezia in particular, received quite a bit of attention here in Australia a few years ago when the National Gallery of Victoria announced they had identified one of their portraits as depicting Lucrezia Borgia:

Lucrezia Borgia by Dosso dossi.

The meaning of life can be found in a coin.

I have to agree about Jeremy Irons in The Borgias, a tour de force perfromance and IMHO one of his best.

Lovely to see a coin associated with such a character!

I agree, certainly one of his best roles and no small part in crystalising my desire to purchase a coin of Alexander Sextus.

In case you still don't have a reference, I have Berman here, and it's number 532. It also indicates Muntoni 16-17.

Thanks Silvernut, I've added the references to the first post.
