gb,

Love the portrait! Beautiful!

That is an interesting depiction of an altar, isn't it?

Great pick up!

Looks very similar to the bird-bath in my garden.   :)

Andreas,

Are you referring to the obverse, reverse or both?

I don't think it was tooled. the fields look rather smooth though, but, it could be the photograph.

hi minos,

I just checked the fake gallery and I have bad news:

Both example are fakes! :(

if there are two coins of a common emperor like marc aurel were strucked with the same obverse and reverse die,
you have to be warily because such a case is rather impossible.

also the style of Iuventas is very bad! (the veil is depicted crude and an altar like this I have never seen before).

Bad news indeed, did not care to look at the fake gallery after seeing the one I've posted (wich was sold by an important US auction house). I was right, at least, in saying that it wasn't tooled ;D

kc, what do you think about this one, sold by the same auction house. It's identical in some aspects (reverse die, obverse legend), but it's different in others (Aurelius hairs (?), flan shape, centering). The first 3, including the one I posted wich is the same as the one from the fake gallery, seem to be casted (unless one of them is the host). But the latest ???

So we're looking at 3 and possibly 4 fake cast coins in this thread?

Maybe, unless someone can prove that these dies are official (reverse one mainly), in wich case there would be at least 2 fakes, possibly 3.

And yet another, from wildwinds...

Shouldn't this thread be moved in the Authentification, fakes,... section ?

I may as well add my own, which after cleaning a bit, I decided was ancient.  There is, I think, some ill-judged sharp-tool cleaning of the profile.  But it has that squarish shape that is characteristic of ill-made Antonine sestertii, which I can't imagine anyone's faking (as Caley said, they seem to have sliced off the blanks from a squarish roll of copper alloy, which Caley wouldn't dignify as orichalcum), and it has a less girlish look to its portrait.
Not that, in any case, it's my favorite sestertius, but Youth Personified did attract me.
I had taken out the sestertii to re-photograph them, RAW.  When I first moved to DSL I did pretty badly.  But the image is not untruthful, such as it is.
