SPQR Coins' Gallery Update
« on: May 16, 2012, 06:39:11 pm »
Well I had to save some money and sell a few things but I finally have a Julius Caesar portrait denarius:)

I thought I'd share it with the forum:

Added a new denarius of Titus (as Caesar) minted in Antioch.  It commemorates the triumph following the Jewish War.  The coin has a dark tone with some very nice rainbow colors that really stand out in the picture.

Hello all!

I added a folder to my gallery for British Provincial Tokens of the 18th Century.  They are more commonly known as Conder Tokens.

After collecting ancients for about 5 years I discovered Conders and was hooked.  Most of my early ancient collection was sold off to satisfy my new interest.  Now that I am back to collecting ancients my Conder collection is suffering the same fate.  It's a never ending cycle this hobby of ours.

Originally the tokens were made by private companies to fill the shortage of copper coinage in England during the late 18th Century.  Eventually collectors became interested in them and a new craze was born.  The subject matter of Conder tokens range from storefront advertising all the way to the Napoleonic Wars.  I got years worth of enjoyment out of these coins and I thought I would share them with the Forvm

Here are just a few examples:

These are some very interesting coins but every time I click on one to comment it shows a different coin!

That might have been when I was adding coins.  I've noticed that myself at times.

Without realizing it I completed a Twelve Caesars collection in silver!

OK OK, I know, Caligula and Claudius are plated, but I won't tell if you won't  :-X

Very nice!  I hope to get the 12 down sometime in my future, i just keep getting distracted by republican coins.  8)  The Claudius is very attractive.

I took a little break from coin buying so I could move, but I'm back in the game with a new coin from the Forvm shops.  I hope you like it.  :)

While I was putting together the Top 5 of 2012 there were, of course, contenders so I thought I would make it the Top 10 with these beauties.

Coin 1:  https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-82055

Coin 2:  https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-80006

Coin 3:  https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-75958

Coin 4:  https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-87174

Coin 5:  https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-86543

I'm sure as I look back on this list I will way to make a change here and there because I love all my coins.  2012 has been a very good year for my collection and I look forward to see what 2013 will bring.  I might even start to focus on quality over quantity and maybe add a Caligula or Claudius (or both  ;) denarius to the mix.  But who knows we'll have to wait and see.

To all my Forvm friends I wish a very happy and prosperous New Year!!!

Sacrifices were made but when I saw this official Caligula denarius trapped inside an ICG slab I had to break it free and add it to my collection  ;D:

Mark Antony Added
« Reply #21 on: September 11, 2013, 06:55:41 pm »
It was my birthday recently, so I thought I would treat myself to a new coin.  Realizing that I didn't have an example of Mark Antony's coinage I settled on this:

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-101877

Even though it was minted nearly a decade before Actium, it goes along with this recent addition of Octavian.

I hope you like  :)

Great addition.  I love that Octavian looks so sickly on that coin! :)

I haven't been adding as much to my collection as I have in the past.  So I'm happy to add this little gem I found in the Forvm Shop, and I thought I'd share it here.  Hope you like...
