Death of David Sellwood
« on: April 28, 2012, 10:17:05 pm »
Just passing along a sad FYI to fellow Parthian lovers: Found out at the CICF that David Sellwood passed away earlier this month.  Haven't found any info online other than a blurb in French here:

If anyone knows of additional links/info/obits, please post.  Thanks.

This was posted on the Parthia Group on April 7, 2012

Dear Friends,

Sadly, I must inform you that I learned today through Dr. Farhad Assar that our dear colleague and noted author David Sellwood died Saturday evening, 7 April 2012.

He was in hospital for injuries suffered from a fall on 19 March. Although he showed good signs of recovery, he unexpectedly developed cardiac complications.

The funeral is planed for Tuesday, 1 May 2012, at the Kingston Crematorium, Bonner Hill Rd, Kingston Upon Thames, Surrey KT1 3EZ.

With great regret,

Chris Hopkins

He will be missed.

I would think Sellwood's obituary will be published in a forthcoming ONS Newsletter.

He truly will be missed. I was always hoping he would have a third edition incorporating all of the changes to chronology that have come along with the Parthian series, (as well as publish it not in that handwriting font - brutal).

A great obituary indeed.  Thanks for posting the link.  While at the CICF last year, I had heard that Dr. Assar would be completing the third edition of Sellwood's "An Introduction to the Coinage of Parthia."  It's good to see it confirmed in print (in the obit).

Sellwood has been dead for almost a year. A "third edition" of Sellwood's Parthian book has/had been rejected by everyone (for years) -- because it contained many fake coins (plus the enormous problem of the changes included). And: the first and second edition already contained different systems of types; just use all the Parthia.com data. Which beats the Sellwood books by miles...
