Caracalla , Ellagaball hybrid???
« on: January 13, 2012, 03:14:56 pm »
Hello, everyone. Here's a Antoninian. Caracalla front, the back is Ellagaball.
This could be a fake? Perhaps a contemporary imitation. This is a fouree.
Can anyone help.
Thank you in advance for your help.

If it's a fourree, you can take it for granted it's a contemporary imitation. I don't believe any of them were official. Most likely the forger was careless about matching the faces.

Are you sure it is plated though?

It was actually a question. From the picture I don't see any reason to think it is a plated coin. Is it clear in hand that it is or is it just an assumption?
