Hmmm…
I thought we are not supposed to make political statements here. To me this sounds very much like one:
"There is nothing like too much job security when it comes to churning out smugly indifferent robots.”
That claim is entirely made-up and devoid of factual proof. Considering that there is no knowledge whatsoever about the reason the coin vanished, it is also far-fetched and unfair to claim that USPS might have STOLEN it.
I used to live in the US for four years ages ago and the postal system worked fine. Perhaps things should be kept in proportion - after all, it is just one coin.

The statement in question that I made is an observation based on experiences I have
had with various forms of bureaucracy, and was a response to the actual lack of concern shown by the office staff of my local branch when it came to tracking and following up on their own policies and assurances. It reflects my personal opinion, and I don't see how it is in the least
bit political. I have
good reason to be frustrated given the circumstances.
What in the world do you have to gain in criticizing my frustrated and completely understandable response to an awful situation? It IS possible that this coin could have been stolen, I did not say that it was likely, I merely mentioned the possibility. Your unhelpful and sanctimonius comments do nothing but pour salt into the wound.
I am very passionate about these coins that I collect, and I take their preservation very seriously. I am worried that the coin will not be properly cared for and may not be preserved for future generations, and that would in some small
part be because of me. That may sound a little crazy to some, but it's the way that I feel. But after all, it's just one coin, no big deal, right? I have to say that I feel a little
bit sorry for you if this attitude reflects your level of passion for your own coins.
P.S.
Cliff, I am very sorry to hear about your lost coin. We all take this risk everytime we have a coin shipped, and we know that these things will happen, but that sure does not make it suck any less when they do. A lost
Brutus denarius has got to be a tough one, my condolences.
