Hungarian early Habsburg

Hello,

This appears to be a 16th century AE local forgery of a denar.

I can make out the typical PATRONA VINGARIE, but the obverse legend is unfamiliar to me.  It appears to have the date above the shield, within circle (but date is worn off), as seen on issues of MAximillian or Rudolf.  Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello!

On this style, the legends are usually garbled.  This was probably made by a local blacksmith!

i think both side try to say PATRONA HVNGARIE , is just that the top legend is mangled and the other one Ok
and not the emperor s name

the sign KB at sides indicate that this denier was trying to copy a kremnitz issue ,  the largest mint in hungary at the time.

i think it could be a 17th or 16th century forgery

nice coin

LOOK AT THE SHIELD -- THAT IS the key to helping date these coins.  The AUSTRIAN arms super-imposed shows a Hapsburg issue.

Other styles will narrow the dating down; check your HUSZAR book.
