Which Edward?
« on: September 28, 2011, 01:49:22 pm »
Can anyone tell me which King Edward this is?
I'd be doubly pleased if anyone could tell me roughly what year it was struck.

The coin is an English silver penny minted in London.

Thanks,

Alex.

Hi,

EDW REX on the obverse and the neat reverse lettering make this Edward I - for me that is certain. Class is harder to establish but given the wedge drapery, Roman N and closed E I think that it is a class 1c. The recoinage began in 1279 and the real push for the production ends in 1281 during class 3 I believe so that is the best I can give you.

Regards,

Mauseus
