Ottoman manghir
« on: September 26, 2011, 01:25:05 am »
Could anyone help me with the mint and approximate date on this one?  I would guess around the time of Suleyman I, but I haven't been able to locate it anywhere.  Size is 18 mm.  Thanks a lot for any help.   Jim

Looks to me like a mongol one (Golden Horde) - perhaps Jani Beg?

Yes, you're absolutely right!  It's Jani Beg, Serai mint, 752, Mitchiner 1529.  I got misdirected to the Ottoman series by a drawing of a similar flower design in Nuri Pere, at the end of the section where he lists the ornamental types struck by Suleyman.  Thanks a lot for the help!    Jim
