A hurricane is headed our way and we are getting out of town.  Shipping will be delayed until we can return on Monday or possibly later.  The people will be safe.  The coins will be safe.  I hope the house and especially the library survive.

As a Hurricane Katrina survivor, I wish you luck and offer one piece of advice: the only thing that really can't be replaced are the family photos.  Make sure you take them with you!

All the best,
Cliff

They seem to be thinking now that Irene will be no more than a category 1 hurricane by the time it reaches North Carolina. As a veteran of many hurricanes I should
think hopefully it won't cause much damage. I remember when Erin blew over us here in Gulf Breeze as a category 1. People got out and walked around to see what it
felt like. Some young folk went by on bicycles, blowing with the wind, which was rather dangerous as there was a good deal of debris blowing around. When the eye
passed over everybody went out and moved their cars to the other side of the buildings. It did knock down some pine trees. The later hurricane Ivan was another matter!

Best of luck, Joe. As a Louisianian I've seen what havoc these storms can cause. I wish you and yours well. I pray it will pass uneventfully.

I don't know how close you are to the coast, but I certainly hope that the  hurricane will peter out before it reaches you.  Our wishes are with you for everything to be well.

Those of us living a bit further north are bracing for the hurricane on Sunday.  It shouldn't be as strong but it is nevertheless of concern.

It looks like it just got downgraded to a cat 2 so that is a good sign.

I am also waiting for it to hit around Sunday morning, they say it's going to be really bad, even up in New England.

Double whammy for the US east coast, first an unusually large earthquake, and now an historical hurricane.

Good luck with evacuations Joe and stay safe, i know i will try to but i will be staying at home to weather out the storm so we shall see.

Just saw morehead city on the news as being directly in the path. Hopefully its weakened enough to not cause so much damage for all involved. Best of luck to anyone in the area and God bless.

Yes, I monitored that storm nearly all last night, and I hope you didn't get inundated.  Not only Morehead City but Norfolk, because our Akropolis lives near by.

Anyone have any updates?  My newspaper had a byline from Morehead City, but maddeningly, they mentioned virtually nothing of the state of the city.

I certainly hope for the best.  I live in an area without hurricanes, but I witnessed firsthand the destructive power of winds of a once in a lifetime windstorm a few years ago.  The whole city was out, and the winds were c. 50-70 mph max.  I can't imagine even a "weak" hurricane.
