Disruptive Low Voting = Banned
« on: June 09, 2011, 05:27:22 pm »
We are now logging BOT voter's username and ratings.  As discussed in numerous posts, someone has been voting 0 or 1 on almost every coin.  It seems that someone is still with us.  If they do not stop, they will not be here long.

P.S. (added 6/20/2015)

Opinions may be subjective, but the stars have mouse-over labels:
0 = rubbish
1 = Poor
2 = Fair
3 = Good
4 = Excellent
5 = Great.

Someone is voting O's and 1's again on several coins, not just mine.  Kind of takes the fun out of this.

FORVM is aware of the problem. This matter is being addressed and hopefully it will now cease.

Please do not let the actions of those with malicious intent deter you from visiting and entering into the fun of the gallery.

Almost all the zero votes, over 100, were made by Geta12, from Serbia.  Geta12 has been banned and all of his zero votes have been deleted from the gallery.

Geta12 is my special friend, he once rated every single coin of mine a 0.  ;D

Then I must be in good company!  ;D

But what about the rash of 1 and 2 ratings?  Are those also from the same person?

But what about the rash of 1 and 2 ratings?  Are those also from the same person?

There are six ratings, members are free to choose whichever rating they think a coin falls into. Although you or I might think it "not nice" to vote a one or a two, there is nothing to stop someone doing so on a coin he or she particularly does not like.

The issue with low voting is if it is done consistently and maliciously, as was the case with geta12. As said before, the ratings are not all about the head to heads, they are there to try and raise the bar on the quality of coins posted in the BOT.

Members are free to add any coin that they see fit so, to take things to extremes, if someone added a porous, worn, zapped common coin with a hole in it to the BOT it would not rate even a one from me.  ;D :evil:

Perhaps the wording of the star system is confusing to some people, (three stars is, after all, "good" and two stars, "fair"), so someone voting three might think that they are voting appreciatively. I do not know.

I do know that it would not be acceptable to conduct a witch-hunt for anyone who happened to vote a low rating on the odd coin. If we did that then there would be no point in the ratings at all, and that is part of the fun.

Maybe it's just my nice nature  :), but if I look at a coin and think that I would vote lower than a 3, I actually don't vote and move on to the next.

this is pretty much how i feel too, not that i participate that much anyway.
but if we are voting honestly then the legitimate 1's and 2's should be just as valid as the 4's and 5's, and not subject to retaliation or abuse (ie; "someone rated your coin a 2 so i gave it a 5 to compensate"). that is if this really is about the ratings and not just a mutual admiration club. as long as this attitude prevails the ratings won't be valid anyway.

I agree completely, and again I'm not taking this too seriously.  Coins that legitimately rate a 2 or 3 is fine.

 As Mark said if I see a coin that I'd rate lower than a 3 I won't vote.  What about a coin that might be ragged and rough but truly is the Best of the Type because there are only a few specimens known.  Someone might give it a 0, 1 or even 2 because of condition, but for the type it deserves a 5.  Again in such a case if I don't know enough about the type or series I won't vote.

Definitely way too seriously and the current star rating system is 1) what the software provides, 2) requires no manual intervention, 3) takes place in the BOT gallery and not on the board, which is important, 4) is actually more interesting and fun than a dull poll would be.

I am told we have another malicious voter. We will investigate and another member will likely be banned.

Hi all,

Strangely enough, the two following have got a zero rating in the past few days :

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-14255

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-67805

Not that it is of great importance, especially since the BOT gallery isn't very active at the moment, but what caught my eye is that the Valentinian II had 21 ***** before it got that zero....

Strange.....

Based on the quality of the coins, I assume the low votes were accidental. I informed the member by private message that they need to be more careful and not make another similar mistake.
