Coponius Prutah dated year 33
« on: April 13, 2012, 06:26:19 am »
Hi all,

I've noted a number of prutahs of Coponius that are plainly marked LLG or year 33. These all seem to be recognised by the seller as having the date of year 36 which is LLS. My old printing of Hendin only mentions the year 36.

I don't have one myself (mine is year 36) but is there a year 33?
Attached one of the number that I have seen for sale.

All the best,
Col

This coin is in fact dated :L: :Greek_Lambda: :Greek_Stigma: (year 36).  The  :Greek_Stigma: resembles a  :Greek_Gamma: on your coin (this similarity is noted in TJC; see the description of coin 312) so it is not actually from year 33.

Thank you very much fot the information.

I just wish that these ancient Greeks would form their letters better.

All the best,
Col
