Septimius Severus Boni Eventus
« on: March 08, 2011, 10:05:00 am »
I recently acquired this denarius from S.Severus, which was completely misattributed by the auction firm, since they claim it a RIC 511b  ???

Obv: IMP CAE L SEP SEV PERT AVG ? CO?, laureate bust of Septimius right
Rev: BONI EVENTUS, Bonus Eventus standing left, holding basket of fruit and corn ears.

I am having a bit of a difficulty identifying it, due also to some worn legends...
RIC 347/352 cannot be, since the end of the obverse legend does not match
RIC 369 I doubt it, since do not manage to read anything after CO, does not seem to leave space for COS II as stated for this coin.
RIC 447 I believe not, since I read CO, and this one ends with IMP II
RIC 468/474 the same as above, only here ends with IMP VII/IMP VIII respectively

Unpublished in RIC? Or am I reading the worn obverse legend wrong?
Does someone have a better guess? Would you venture a guess for RIC (and for BM vol.V for that matter?)

Thanks!

I suggest that you read this thread which provides information on this rare "AVG II CO" series.
