IONIA. Miletus. El 1/12
Stater, ca. 600-550 B.C.
Obv: Lions
head right; Rev:
Incuse punch containing Stellate pattern.
Ref:
Rosen 275.
This
type was
part of a
hoard found in western
Asia Minor in the 1990s and which would have contained at least 29
electrum coins of Miletus. Several coins have been proposed in the international market. Someone has doubted about authenticity. The treasure is published in Coins
Hoards (CH.
VIII, 2, p. 1, pl. 1, n° 5-33).
Reading on excellent rjohara website:
"A single
hoard containing representatives of all of the
denominations in the series, including at least eleven twelfths and fourteen twenty-fourths, was discovered about 1990 and has been recorded and partly illustrated as
hoard #2 in
Coin Hoards VIII (
Wartenberg et al., 1994: 1, pl. 1)."
http://rjohara.net/coins/miletus-electrum/And also in CH
VIII there is written that someone doubt about this coins... but they don't tell WHY...
So... opinions ? Facts ? Ideas ?
Thanks
