2010 FORVM Website Award for Numismatic Excellence Poll
« on: November 19, 2010, 04:59:09 am »
Greetings Fellow FORVM Classical Numismatic Discussion Board Members,

Welcome to THE Final Polling for the 2010 Forvm Awards For Numismatic Excellence!  We will be awarding a Gold Logo to the website that receives the most votes, Silver to the second most-voted, and Bronze to the site that comes in third in votes.  If any sites tie in these top three tiers, they will both/all receive the relevant Logos.

We would like you to vote for three sites from the list of Finalists above in order to give the Silver and Bronze Awards as much backing as possible.  However, you may vote for just one or two sites if that is what you really want to do.  Please note that the board programming requires you to vote for all of your choices at the same time.  If you make a mistake or you change your mind, you may click "Remove Vote" (which will erase all your votes in this particular poll) and resubmit your choices.

The Finalists are the eight sites that received the most submissions during the Nomination Process that closed a few days ago.  We congratulate them for this and wish them the best of luck in polling.  Regardless of the outcome, they are all treasures of the online numismatic community.

As for the rest of our Standard Award Recipients, your hard work and sharing of knowledge is appreciated all the same and not one bit less.  This is why you received the original Award after our membership reviewed your sites in their own individual polls.  Since a site can only win the Annual Gold Award twice, there exists a great chance that you may see your sites in future contests.

Respectfully,
The Forvm Website Awards Nomination Committee

Here are the Website URLs for each finalist:

Each one of these finalist have put a lot of hard work into having some of the best ancient numismatic websites available. I would like to encourage everyone to visit their sites and vote for who you think deserves this year's award.

While this poll remains open, I will occasionally post a reminder for those who have not yet submitted their vote.

Congratulations to this year's finalists and good luck!

Respectfully,
Danny Jones

Thanks for pointing out that typo, Aarmale. I've corrected it in the original post so others can click on the correct link.

We are hoping for maximum participation this year in the voting process. FORVM members, let your voice be heard... cast your vote today!

Great participation in the polls in the first week! With thousands of registered members and hundreds of them active on the boards, let's get out the vote. Finalists, there is plenty of time left before the polls close, so it's still anybody's game.

Don't forget to cast your vote!

Wow! This is shaping up to be a tight race. Still, with the polls open til the last day of the year, these number are sure to change. Barring any hanging chads or touch screen errors, it looks like it may be a photo finish for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

In 2008, there was a record 132 votes cast for the FORVM Award for Numismatic Excellence. There are literally hundreds of active members on the FORVM discussion boards. Let's see if we can break that record this year.

Please cast your vote today!!!

I hope all these bumps on this poll aren't getting annoying. I'm just trying to keep the poll at the forefront of attention to maximize voter participation, and there are still lots of active FORVM members who have yet to cast their vote.

Remember, if there is a tie, all finalists who have tied for a place will receive the respective award. If a finalist has previously received first place (Gold Award), and receive it a second time, he/she will receive the FORVM lifetime award.

Please cast your vote if you haven't done so already!

I'm sure that I'm being really thick, but I can't for the life of me work out how to vote! I'm logged in, but can't see a vote button or link anywhere and there are no specific instructions in the thread. Can anyone help as there are only hours to go till the deadline.  ???

Thanks for the reply, but there is nowhere to check off the ones I want, as far as I can see. I just see the little graph with the running totals.

Don't know what happened, but you should be able to vote now.

edit: It looks as if the poll was linked to my time zone and closed several hours earlier than it should have. I'm going to keep the poll open another 24 hours because of this discrepancy to allow everyone to have a fair chance of casting your votes.

Sorry for any inconvenience!

Respectfully,
Danny

Because of the error which closed the poll for several hours yesterday, the poll has been extended for 24 hours past the time the correction was made.

Thank you everyone who has participated in this year's Annual Awards Poll. If you haven't cast your vote, do so now!

The poll will now close at 6:00 PM GMT, Jan. 1.

Hi Danny!

It's a thankless job, but I, for one, appreciate how hard you worked on this :)

And after perusing the winning websites, it would be hard to argue with the voting results.

If I have a complaint, it's that more people didn't vote, but my disappointment may stem from the fact that I am a precinct officer at my polling place and I am appalled by the lack of interest in the voting process in the USA.  "Use it or lose it!"

Looking forward to this year's nominees!

Regards,
mz

Thanks to everyone who voted for my site, and congratulations to Dane, who fully deserves the lifetime award, and to Andrew McCabe and PtolemAE for their bronzes, and even more, for their excellent sites.  Thanks also to Danny for the work he has put in on the ballot.

My silver 2010 award is already displayed on my site!

I would like to say a huge thankyou to everyone who voted me and my RIC lists such a wonderful honour. It is lovely to see that people appreciate the work put into the lists and the personal messages and emails I have received brought tears to my eyes.

Having said that, my naughty Mailwasher automatically deleted the award images, so I have had to ask Danny to resend them. How shameful s that ?

As people on my mailing lists will know, there is at least one new list planned for the near future - the Carinus list should be online soon.

So many many thanks once again. I am so awfully proud to be given the gold AND a Lifetime award and feel now that I have done justice to the late Dave Surber's faith in me, when he gave me so much encouragement after I showed him the first RIC list I ever did - the feltemp "fallen horseman" list.

Love to you all for the New Year !
