Michigan Coin Shows
« on: September 01, 2010, 10:19:42 am »
I'm trying to decide if it is worth driving to the coin show in Schoolcraft, MI on Sept 25.  Has anyone ever been or know if there will be any dealers/collectors of ancients there?

I am planning to set up there on the 25th. It will be my first time there, not sure if there will be any other ancient dealers or not but I will have a vast array of ancients. I'm also setting up in Chelsea on the 19th.

Best Regards,

That's great to hear! Sounds like it will be definitely worth it then, look forward to meeting in person :)

I was thinking about Chelsea as well but that date doesn't work as well for me.

Thank you for replying!

I think next year I would like to go to Michigan if you do it again JH.  It is a good excuse for me to escape for a day *laughs*.  Besides the wife does not mind as she knows I enjoy my coins and is happy that I have something like that.

Not sure if i'll be doing these little shows next year or not, depends on how they do and if there are other larger shows at tha same time, but it's pretty probable that I will do the large MSNS show in Dearborn in November again next year.  That one is the 26th -28th this year.

The Jackson / Ann Arbor coin show is at the COMFORT INN & CONFERENCE CENTER in Chelsea Michigan this Sunday.  (Exit 159 on I-94).  Past experience is 3-4 tables of ancients.  Time is 9 to 4.

The Suburban Detroit Coin show is this week.

THURSDAY JANUARY 26th      Noon - 6pm
FRIDAY JANUARY 27th       10am - 6pm (Dealers 8am-10am)
SATURDAY JANUARY 28th      9am - 4pm (Dealers 8am-9am)

RADISSON HOTEL
17123 Laurel Park Drive South
(I-275 and Six Mile)
Livonia, Michigan

Past experience is that it is mostly US coinage, bullion, and 4 or five tables of ancients.

It drives me crazy that these shows have the first couple of days timed so that us working stiffs can't make it during posted hours.  Guess I need to hurry up and retire!!

Don't give up on the local Michigan shows yet! Last weekend at the local show in Grand Rapids there were no ancient dealers but I found a M. Aurelius RIC 1227 and a Hieron II AE, both in VF condition. Won't go into too many details but price was far below retail :)
