..Hmmm … Thanks, Archivum.
I don’t deny its atypical elements of crudity … But it
could be an Official coin, struck from Official die,
engraved by a novice or otherwise inexpert, or indifferent engraver. (?)
‘Barbarous imitation’ may not necessarily mean ‘worse,’ as you say, but it implies explicit denial of it’s being officially struck and legal tender: - doesn’t it?
My questioning here is sincere, as I’m wondering whether there’s something more telling about this than I see and know. Ancient ‘
forgeries’ and imitations, etc., I’ve never ‘studied’ and most I’ve seen are among those shown and discussed here at
FORVM over the years.
Svetoslav,
I
could very well be mistaken about it, but to
me, I see enough to think your coin
probably an Official issue – with, as noted by Archivum, some clear anomalies.
The value..?
Every ancient coin has four possible values.
1 – It’s priceless (true of all of them).
2 – What You paid for it.
3 – What You think it’s worth
to-You 4 – What someone else is willing to give you for it.
.. A kind of 4b: Market Value?
*shrug* - Maybe $8.oo - $15.oo – give or take a mood, a need, an impulse, etc …
Best,
Tia
