ID help needed / Rare / symmachy of dion ?
« on: April 02, 2010, 09:54:11 am »
Hi all,

i need your help for identification of an amazing coin... Before i find a way to post a picture on this forum, find below some clues ;

22 to 25 mm
2,5 to 3.5 thickness
12.8 g

Metal ? goldy whith a beautiful dark brown patina on the side. Deep red sand incrustations. Brass or ? kind of electrum ? or ?

Reverse : Demeter head right. No exergue
Obverse : A goat full size facing left. Whith a star or a small thing flying on top. Exergue : INO or INI or INIO

Quality of mint : Very deep, very clear, nearly perfect....

Find north of sahara desert 2003

For what I find for the moment, it may be a coin out of sicily, ENNA, circa 344 bc.

But the metal is strange.... very goldy whith this nice thin chocolate patina on the side and everywhere deep inside.

So, any ideas is welcome, and by the way I apologize for my poor american... I'm french !

Thank's a lot

Hello,

this type is not recorded as a Sicilian coin by Calciati.

Modern cast fake. Possibly just a fantasy piece so you wouldn't find a coresponding genuine coin anyway.

This coin has been shown before, it's still fake.

Oh and the language is English not American. No offence intended to anyone but that sort of thing is something that does annoy me.

It's a different dialect though!

The English and the Americans:  two nations separated by a common language.
