I am glad that
Gordian Guy referred to the
ayiyoryitika page first, since that is where discussion, lacking from every other 'source', can be found, but I would add that very easily located new photos can be found in
https://picasaweb.google.com/...which are zoomable and thus most useful for determining die identity. I also give the HrJ reference there. That is why I provided this extra resource.
The new coin is indeed a
12a and almost as
good as the first one I obtained. The HrJ
ref. is HrJ 8.14.7.14. Jekov
had to lump several together at the last minute, but it's there, even enlarged 2:1. The lumping together in this case is especially unfortunate (it originates with
Pick's listings), since this one seems to be Tertullan rather than Gallian in date.
See, further developing this,
http://teegeeoperanobilia.blogspot.com/2011/04/notes-on-comparable-small-brass-and.html where, under group (b), it is paired, convincingly I think, with a
Caracalla as
Caesar; pay attention especially to the lettering as well as the early kind of Septimius
portrait.
I am sorry, but no mere number, though it is
still my 12a and with always the same
Pick and HrJ references (and to the amateurish description in the Rousse
catalogue, whence I gave this Sauroktonos die a name), is of much use unless further
work, readily available, is consulted.
