coins are similar which is why I posted both coins. Not constantine era I would think, any suggestions?

I am not sure, but first one looks like Diocletian with reverse type Moneta holding scales and curnocopiae. It is possible to read "DIOCLETIANVS" from the obverse. I can't say anything about the second one, but I guess it's Licinius. Regards, rubrius

many, many thanks! A new world is opening up for me! I see people refer to RIC literature, do you actually own the book or use digital sources?

RIC consists of Ten parts, some consisting of two or three books, but I also have an illegal( ;D) digital version, which I happened to see offered at a very low price in a notorious international market site. For coinage of the late third and fourth centuries we usually use this website:http://www.catbikes.ch/coinstuff/coins-ric.htm and for an (incomplete but vast) overview www.wildwinds.com comes in handy. At the end of each page there, you find separate links.
Enjoy this never-ending hobby!
