casata137ec's befores

Evening all...I just recieved my latest batch of "I can play but not win" coins! Woo hoo! The recent inclusion of silver is kinda nice :). Mine is a worn den (severan, but I have not really given it a once over). All in all it looks like a pretty good lot. The mintmark on the wolf and twins looks interesting too. Ah well. They are boiling now...

Is the top left one Carausius?  That's pretty cool.

I had bad experiences with uncleaneds in general (I probably made a mistake in always getting the 100 pct. dirt-encrusted ones), but Forum's recent lots look pretty nice.  I'm sure they'll come out well.

i've been noticing a few uncleaned silver Denarii/Ants in the forum regular catalog as well.

chris - too bad about the flan flaw on the Romulus/Remus, it looks like it was struck with brand new obverse and reverse dies, with an unsually nice mm.

I am with you brother! That coin would have been beautiful! The non-corroded portions are perfectly smooth to the touch, although well and evenly patinated. The mint mark is all I really have on this one, and it is throwing me for a loop trying to figure it out. All in all it is going to be a pretty tough lot...I am actually thinking of going the olive oil route and seeing how that does...I have not tried that in years.

If I'm not mistaken, that first coin is a Tacitus that will come out of the dirt with lots of detail and maybe even some nice silvering still on it. But of course, I could indeed be mistaken.  The Severus Alexander denarius is not bad at all, for a lot of uncleaned. But whatever you can rescue of that Siscia She-wolf will certainly look very very nice...
Very nice challenge!
